Montana Cycling Project is teaming up with Red Lodge Events' Desert in the Backyard. Together we will host one heck of a weekend in Elk Basin. Running, mountain biking, camping, music and good food. MCP's inaugural 24 hour mountain bike race can be done solo, duo or up to eight for a carnival class team. Registration for this event opens March 1, 2021.
As with all events in 2021, we will be closely monitoring the COVID-19 Pandemic situation and operate based on the safety guidelines in place.
The route is about 10.5 miles of singletrack and doubletrack. Elk Basin features trails made by motorcycles, some new trails etched in by mountain bikers and old access roads. The final route will be announced 5 days before the ride. The route is accessed from Elk Basin Road which is also the basecamp area.
Camping will be available and is included in your registration fee. Day parking will be available for Desert in the Backyard participants and team members just doing a lap or two in the 24 hour ride. Be sure to read the FAQ's in registration.
A pulled pork dinner and pancake breakfast will be provided for registered riders during the 24 hour riding window. Additional food can be purchased by friends and family not riding.
Campfire details will be announced prior to the ride based on fire restrictions in the area.
Stand by for a complete schedule complete with music, campfires, food and fun while we ride and run in the desert with our friends at Desert in the Backyard.
See how many laps you can get in 24 hours as a solo or share the pain as a duo, team of four or carnival size up to a team of 8.
Laps will be about 10.5 miles with a couple of aid stations.
